Thermocouples are temperature sensors that consist of two leads which are each made of a different type of metal. The wires are joined together at one end which is called a junction. The junction is the point at which the temperature is measured. A change in temperature creates a voltage which is then relayed back to read the exact result. Type J, K, T, & E are “Base Metal” thermocouples, the most common types of thermocouples. Type R, S, and B thermocouples are “Noble Metal” thermocouples, which are used in high temperature applications.
PT100 is a Platinum Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD). ‘PT’ referring to the element symbol and ‘100’ referring to a resistance of 100 ohms at 0°C which changes with temperature. PT100 temperature sensors are reliable and can offer a higher degree of accuracy. The temperature range is suitable for -200°C to 600°C but are more commonly used between -50°C to +250°C.
Thermostats – Capillary or Rod Type Thermostats are available in various sizes and temperature ranges which can be easily adjusted as required. Rod type thermostats are commonly used in immersion heaters.
